Thinking it through as a mature student
When you return to full time education as a mature student it is a huge challenge. It is important to think this through by looking at how it will effect you, your family, your time and your finances. A degree course (especially full time) demands commitment. If you think through all of the practical issues before starting your course you will be better prepared to cope with this new and exciting experience
Returning to education can seem to be a risk in many ways but as a graduate you are less likely to be out of work, you will earn more money and recent research shows that you could even live longer. You need to think through how you will manage financially, academically and emotionally. Always remember that there is lots of help and support available both before you get to University and also when you have gained your place and begin your studies.

Higher Education is very different to School or College with independent learning and private study being a huge part of your experience. You will be involved in lectures, seminars and tutorials and learn many different skills which will vary depending on the course you are studying.
There are opportunities to be involved in social activities, sports, joining clubs and societies and gaining new interests and hobbies.
You will meet people from a wide range of backgrounds.
There are many students who are over 21 and returning to learning.
An exciting opportunity to pursue your career or study something that really interests you.
The financial advantages of having an HE qualification is that you can get a better job and you are less likely to be out of work.
