One of the interesting presentations given at the launch
On Wednesday 5th October parents and students from local schools in East Northamptonshire attended an inspiring evening of presentations from Aimhigher Northamptonshire. Aimhigher is a government initiative to support students from every type of background as they strive towards Higher Education.
The evening was a huge success attended by over 300 pupils, parents and carers from local schools. Presentations were given by Phil Hope MP for Corby & East Northamptonshire, Roy Leighton, specialist in advanced learning and preparing people for work in the 21st century along with various members of the Aimhigher Team.
Initial feedback has been extremely encouraging with many parents taking the time to write and say how informative they found the evening. "We attended the meeting last night and enjoyed it very much, more importantly it opened our minds to the way children are taught".
This event follows hot on the heels of the success of a similar event in Wellingborough.
Testimonial about the Launch :
"I came along to a meeting along with my daughter at the Diamond Centre last night. Neither of us had any idea what we would be faced with. The venue was packed. We actually thought that we would be faced with a very boring talk. It was the complete opposite ! There was a gentleman that did a talk for about half an hour. His name was Roy Leyton, he was so full of energy and such fun to watch and listen to. He gave some invaluable information to me, and others alike about children being given positivity from a teacher just with a smile, everything he said I related to, with having a son with ADHD and dyslexia and being pumped with negative vibes at school. I went into the school this morning and told his teacher about this meeting and what I learnt. I wonder if it will sink in to my sons teacher as much as it did to me!"
