Latest Project News
In March 2009 Aimhigher Northamptonshire launched its countywide Retention Project ‘Focus on Your Future’. The project is aimed at the current academic year's 17 year olds who are either in year 12 or year 1 at Further Education College who do not have any plans for progression beyond the end of this year and are therefore at risk of becoming NEET.
Aimhigher, in conjunction with partner organisations have identified an appropriate cohort of students and are putting on a series of events introducing the breadth of opportunities available to them. They are also being provided with activities and workshops which support their retention in education and training and progression to the next level of learning.
Students are being offered individual advice and guidance sessions throughout the project.
Partners who are offering a variety of opportunities for these young people include:
- Local Further Education Colleges Tresham, Northampton and Moulton are providing Taster sessions for college course vacancies
- Local Training Providers NITAL are offering Apprenticeship opportunities.
- William Deegan is offering 75 students the opportunity to complete a Customer Services Level 2 qualification at his Academy Centre of Excellence.
- Dale Willis from Starting Off, a local Training and Recruitment Agency is offering advice on ‘getting employment in a recession’.
- Aimhigher is offering workshops on CV writing; Interview Skills and Completing Job Applications.
- Connexions and Aimhigher are offering individual advice and guidance sessions for students.
If you would like to find out more about the project or know someone who would benefit from being in the cohort please contact Mary Richardson, the project Co-ordinator.
