45 year 10 and 11's from Northamptonshire
Occupational Therapy and Adult Nursing, Child Nursing and Midwifery, Sport and Life Science and Genetic testing
Tuesday saw 45 students from across Northamptonshire arrive, full of energy and apprehension. After kick starting with a summer BBQ and team games students settled into their flats and began planning how to win the coveted prize for 'best prop' at the end of week beach party. Both students and Gurus became particularly competitive as resources became like gold dust!
Students then had a taster of the subjects on offer and after choosing the one that they were most interested in they studied and researched this throughout the week. Some even had their arm put into plaster, others gave samples of their blood for testing!
However, as always, in order to give a true taster of university life there were also many social activities such as 'Krypton Factor' and Lazer Zone (where competition between students and Gurus was fierce!). Students also had an afternoon dedicated to 'sports and coaching' during which they participated in basketball, combat dance and team building sessions. And on Friday night a small island of sunshine, normally known as the Student Union, was created and the beach party got well and truly underway.complete with surf machine, Sponge Bob Square Pants and beach hats!
On Saturday students presented their work to an audience of over 100 students, staff and friends and family who came along to support. After the excellent presentations students graduated from the Summer Schools in true university fashion. As well as the graduation certificates of completion almost everyone walked away with fond memories, bundles of self confidence, an enormous sense of achievement and feelings of inspiration towards higher education.
