2009 Summer Schools
What Happened at the 2009 Summer Schools?
A number of Summer Schools took place in 2009 at the University during which 14-16 year olds from across the East Midlands came to get a taste of university life.

Ultimate Campus Challenge, Krypton Factor, Circus Skills, High Ropes, Kayaking and Sailing. Yes you guessed it, it’s the AIMHIGHER NORTHAMPTONSHIRE SUMMER SCHOOLS at the University of Northampton.
Over Two weeks in July 80 students got to experience just what life could be like if they achieve their potential and go on to University. Both Summer Schools were crammed full of highlights and challenges and overall we had an incredible two weeks. Both staff and students went home with some amazing memories, and gained something to take with them into the next stage of their education.
As University is not all work and no play students got involved in lots of exciting social activities such as team challenges in Krypton Factor, being thrown from a sailing boat into the cold waters of a reservoir or Climbing, and leaping from, a 30 foot pole in Milton Keynes . As well as preparing props and costumes for the famous end of week themed party in the Student Union.
The students did have to do some work however and took part in project work in subjects ranging from Podiatry-Sports Injuries to Music Technology. All provided by staff at either Moulton College, Northampton College or The University of Northampton. The students also took part in interactive workshops which provided information about routes into Higher or Further Education and student finance. At the end of the week students presented the results of their project work to an audience of over 60 family and friends, as well as an eager summer school crew. As always the standard of presentations produced at the end of the week was extremely high and was a testament to the students hard work.
No one’s time at University would be complete without a graduation ceremony and the Summer Schools are no different. Each student was congratulated on the results of their hard work and presented with a certificate to recognise their achievements. We would like to say congratulations to all students and wish them all the best in their futures.
