2009 Summer Schools

What Happened at the 2009 Summer Schools?

Aspire 2009

Tuesday 7th July – Saturday 11th July 2009

Hard at Work in Horticulture

41 year 10 and 11 students travelled from Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire and Rutland to take part in this exciting 5 day summer school.

Just hanging around in Arboriculture

Any nerves and anxiety were quickly banished as we got into flat groups and got competitive with ’wacky races’. This was followed by an abundance of burgers at the BBQ and more team challenges in Krypton Factor. These first night activities are all designed to help everyone relax and make friends and it seemed to work, it is quite hard to be shy with someone when they’ve got a mouthful of marshmallows and you’ve got your head in a bucket of water.

Students then got stuck into their project work in either Business (at the University of Northampton) Childcare, Music Technology (at Northampton college), Arboriculture or Horticulture (at Moulton College). Each subject was designed to take students out of their comfort zones and expand horizons and perceptions of higher and further education.

Music Technology Pirates at the Party !

All the students hard work was broken up with a trip to an outdoor education centre, a circus skills workshop, the Ultimate Campus Challenge and a pirate themed party!

At the end of an incredible week, the students presented their work in front of a large audience and should be very proud of themselves. The graduation ceremony was a fantastic and emotional occasion which recognised the students achievements and developments over a short space of time!
